This tutorial shows how to install and review Ubuntu 16.10 on VMware Workstation/Player step by step.   2. Create Virtual Machine on VMware Workstation/Player

Error Message: The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. Power off or reset the virtual machine.
Solution or Workaround: CPU ID Masking
  1. Edit Ubuntu VM Configuration file (.vmx)
  2. Add the following line
  3. cpuid.1.eax = "0000:0000:0000:0001:0000:0110:1010:0101"
  4. Save the configuration file
  5. Power on Ubuntu VM
