If you have access to the internet and social media, which is probably how you are even viewing this page, then you must've heard that the latest iPhones have been released and are creating an enormous amount of buzz, as usual.
The three latest phones offered by Apple are the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the 10th Anniversary special phone, iPhone X, which is yet to be released.
But, if you want to upgrade, you might want to know about it a bit more. So here are some of its specs with details of how they are used and better, if they are, that is, than their predecessors.
1. Design
The all-new iPhone 8 line has turned out to be a bit disappointing in the aspect of designs. While, as you can see, the sizes of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 are about the same and the sizes of iPhone 8 Plus and 7 Plus are about the same as well. So, if you want the newer phone, then remember, you probably won't use size as a reason why.iPhone 7 Dimensions - 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm
iPhone 8 Dimensions - 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm
iPhone 7 Plus Dimensions - 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm
iPhone 8 Plus Dimensions - 158.40 x 78.10 x 7.50mm
Another thing what you should know is about the weight of all four iPhones which makes the iPhone 8 seem as it is a minor step backward for the company.
Weight of iPhone 7 - 4.87 ounces (138 grams)
Weight of iPhone 8 - 5.22 ounces (148 grams)
Weight of iPhone 7 Plus - 6.63 ounces (188 grams)
Weight of iPhone 8 Plus - 7.13 ounces (202 grams)
Another disappointing thing is that the latter has fewer color options as well.
iPhone 7 Line - Jet Black, Black, Rose Gold, Gold, Red, Silver
iPhone 8 Line - Gold, Silver and Space Grey
What else to add in this criteria? Well, it is one of the other major changes! The backs of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are made of Glass, unlike iPhone 7 which was made of Aluminium.
The most durable glass ever in a smartphone, front and back. A colour‑matched, aerospace‑grade aluminium band. New space grey, silver and gold finishes. The front and back feature custom glass with a 50 per cent deeper strengthening layer. A new steel substructure and a stronger, aerospace‑grade 7000 Series aluminium band provide additional reinforcement. And an oleophobic coating lets you easily wipe off smudges and fingerprints.- via Apple
Even though Apple has stated that it is the strongest glass it can offer, it still seems as a loss because it is why there is extra weight added to the phones (to give strength equivalent to aluminum). For those of you wondering why they replaced the material used on the back, it is because they added a new wireless charging feature which we will talk about later on in this post.
My Opinion -
Anyone can see that the newer iPhone has disappointed us regarding all the designs mentioned above, so if you were thinking about upgrading for the looks and hopefully for more beautiful options, then sorry to disappoint you. That is unless the three color options given include your favorites and you are okay with the higher possibility of your iPhone getting damaged.
2. Battery Life
As mentioned before, a drastic change to the iPhone 8 line which was actually earned after a long wait is its new wireless charging feature. Even though it increased the risk of the phone breaking due to the glass back, it seems like a great advancement for the product which would be a big reason why people want to buy this too. And note that it can still also be charged as usual with a lightning charger cable. But, since there is always a but, the sad thing here is that the battery life is about the same as the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
iPhone 7 battery life = iPhone 8 battery life
Talk time (wireless): Up to 14 hours
Internet use: Up to 12 hours
Video playback (wireless): Up to 13 hours
Audio playback (wireless): Up to 40 hours
iPhone 7 Plus battery life = iPhone 8 Plus battery life
Talk time (wireless): Up to 21 hours
Internet use: Up to 13 hours
Video playback (wireless): Up to 14 hours
Audio playback (wireless): Up to 60 hours
But, what is the point of a new upgraded phone if there isn't always a positive too? The great thing is that, for all those slightly impatient people, the wireless charging comes with faster charging too!
Fast-charge capable:
Up to 50% charge 30 minutes - for both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
Fast wireless charging is great, but Apple has also, finally introduced fast wired charging! But the thing is you need to buy it separately.
Fast wireless charging is great, but Apple has also, finally introduced fast wired charging! But the thing is you need to buy it separately.
Apple has not bundled a fast wired charger with any of its new iPhones (no, not even the $1,149 256GB iPhone X) and compliant fast Apple chargers start at $49. In turn, these chargers use a different (Lightning to USB-C) cable which isn’t bundled with the fast charger and costs $25 (one meter) or $35 (two meters). - via forbes.com
3. Display
The thing about the new iPhone 8 is that it doesn't show any improvement against the iPhone 7. Meaning that the display is just like the battery, no improvement, except that the True Tone feature has been added to automatically adjust the screen based on the ambient light in the room to offer more accurate colors and has been taken from the iPad pro product line. The iPhone 8 range also provides HDR10 which is 'higher dynamic range'.iPhone 7 Display and iPhone 8 Display + True Tone
4.7-inch (diagonal) widescreen LCD Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology
1334-by-750-pixel (326 ppi)
1400:1 contrast ratio (typical)
Wide color display (P3)
625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
iPhone 7 Plus Display and iPhone 8 Plus Display + True Tone
5.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen LCD Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology
1920-by-1080-pixels (401 ppi)
1300:1 contrast ratio (typical)
Wide color display (P3)
625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
My Opinion - The display isn't really improved at all, and even though the True Tone is an improvement, the Display overall isn't going to be a reason to upgrade, so for me, if I had to buy this phone following this aspect, I wouldn't.
4. Hardware
The hardware has quite a major change which makes iPhone 8 the fastest phone, well it has an A11 Bionic chip which is 25% faster. For the people who work heavily on their phone, love to multitask, use multiple apps while changing between them every few seconds, etc etc would really love and already needed this improvement. Graphics performance is 30% faster and multitasking is 70% faster. The Apple A11 Bionic chip is layered over 2GB of SK Hynix LPDDR4 RAM. The NAND flash is made by Toshiba, the memory company Apple wants a stake in, and the LTE chip comes from Qualcomm.- via BGR.comThe iPhone 8 includes an A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture, Neural engine, Embedded M11 motion coprocessor
The iPhone 7 includes an A10 Fusion chip with 64-bit architecture and embedded M10 motion coprocessor, no Neural engine.
My Opinion - Unlike the other features, the hardware seems to be the most improved! Such a fast phone with a capability to handle high workloads seems to be a great feature. So, if you want to upgrade, this could be a reason why.
5. Camera
The new iPhone 8 camera seems to be much better, but while comparing it with iPhone 7, it doesn't seem improved at all.iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Camera = iPhone 8 and 8 Plus Camera
FaceTime HD camera
7MP photos
ƒ/2.2 aperture
Retina Flash
Wide color capture for photos and Live Photos
1080p HD video recording
But those are just the basic features. This is one of the best camera offered by Apple, at least until the iPhone X comes along.
With the 8 Plus we’re gaining a couple of key improvements, starting with Portrait Lighting. This new feature puts new tools in our pocket as photographers, namely a gold bounce card (Studio Light mode) and a black backdrop (Stage Light mode). - via Austinmann.comAnother great improvement to the camera is the Portrait mode HDR which makes the portrait captured immensely detailed up to 100%.
The Slow Shutter feature of the rear camera also works great! It is used when you have to use the flash. While using flash mode, the light is always uneven and gives off an unnaturally lighted shot. But with this feature, it keeps the shutter open for longer to allow more natural light to enter into the shot to give a balanced lighting, as you can see in the picture above - via Austinmann.com

My Opinion - The new iPhone 8 is greatly improved to match many needs of photographers. So, if you want to capture amazing pictures and need other feature like backdrops, etc., then I guess this is a great option, but for even better feature, you might want to hang tight and get the iPhone X, depending on what you need, but the iPhone 8 is bottom line, great with its camera!
6. Other Stuff
Water and dust resistantLouder stereo speakers
Reality games and apps powered by A11 bionic chip
Brand new iOS 11
Augmented Reality Games
My Opinion - Pretty great features if you ask me!
7. Storage and Price
Well, as expected, the new iPhone will probably empty your wallet, or instead take the money and wallet whole! The new iPhone 8 lie offers only two storage options like the iPhone 7 did, but, the thing is that they are different capacitiesiPhone 7 - 32gb ($549) and 128gb ($649)
iPhone 8 - 64gb ($699) and 256gb ($849)
iPhone 7 Plus - 32gb ($669) and 128gb ($769)
iPhone 8 Plus - 64gb ($799) and 256gb ($949)
So, if you want to upgrade, you are bound to spend more! The iPhone 8 64gb option costs $50 more than iPhone 7 128gb option! It is quite outrageous, but wait till you see what they ask for iPhone X.
Final Verdict
If you are a die heart fan of Apple and a dedicated upgrader of iPhones, then go for it. But, in my opinion, I probably wouldn't upgrade, nor would recommend it. If you already own an iPhone 7 or 7 plus, then you also probably didn't seem to notice any features that would urge you to upgrade other than just the name of 'iPhone 8'.
What I do recommend is that you should wait for the iPhone X to come out and get even more features with a never before seen iPhone design! So, even though there are many great features of the phone, they aren't living up to many expectations and the consecutive lack of upgrades is responsible for making this one of the most popular boring phones in the market.
Don't waste your breath or your money. If you do have money to spare, then the iPhone X is our go to!
I hope you liked this post and be sure to check out our next one! Stay tuned!
