Ubuntu 16.04 LTS New Features

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) was released on April 21, 2016. It includes the latest, long-term supported Linux kernel 4.4.6, the ability to move the Unity Launcher to the bottom of the screen. It comes with LibreOffice 5.1.1, GNOME Software as the default package manager, and GNOME Calendar. Ubuntu 16.04 has added support for ZFS. Finally, Ubuntu 16.04 introduces Ubuntu Snappy to the desktop which is new package management solution. Think of Snappy as an alternative to .deb files and PPAs. The Unity 8 desktop isn’t included on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS by default, but it’s available to install from the repositories as a preview. If all goes as planned, Ubuntu 16.10 will feature Unity 8 by default.
